Let’s talk adoption.
If you’ve known me for sometime, you will know that my heart is crushed for orphans and adoption. I have always known (since middle school) that one day I will adopt a child. However, I had no idea I would feel called so early in life to pursue it. I always thought I would be a little older and already have a biological child. I think I was wrong. Lately, I’ve felt this huge calling from God to start exploring the possibility of adoption.
Britt and I have not had the blessing of conceiving our first child so I started praying hard. I never thought the answer to my prayers may not be what I thought. I feel like everyday God is saying “Kelly, what are you doing? Why aren’t you listening to my call?” Ok God, I get it.
So Britt and I starting talking more seriously about it. A few years ago when I told Britt that one day, I will adopt, he was a little hesitant. I prayed each night that God would plant the seed in his heart and He has! It makes my heart full of joy that Britt has gotten on board with adoption! We know that we are young and have a lot of learning and growing to do, but I can’t wait to start the process. Our church, North Metro Church in Marietta, GA, has a love for adoption and it’s amazing! They have an adoption group that Britt and I are starting to get involved in and can’t wait to being our journey with them.
NMC is also hosting a Discover Bethany meeting September 9 that we will be attending to get more information on Bethany Christian Services. I hope that will lead us in the right direction and give us insight on what the process is like.
I am so overwhelmed as I start looking into what goes on in the adoption process. There is so much to learn and find out. If we decide to start this right now, we have a lot to decide on and do. International? If so, what country? Domestic? Open or closed? We know that we have plenty of time before we officially say if we’re in the right time of our lives, but it’s still amazing to think about and I get so happy thinking that we may be saving a life of a sweet angel that doesn’t have a mom or dad. I can’t wait!
We are thrilled for this journey and can’t wait to see what The Lord has in store for us. We know it’s good 🙂

Yesterday we talked about yummy eats on St. Simons island and today I’m going to tell you about some fun activities and things to do that are family friendly. These aren’t the only things to do, but definitely some of our favorites.
1. The BeachÂ
Of course. I mean, it’s an island after all. Our favorite public beach to visit is Massengale Parl. It’s fairly close to the King and Prince as well as my favorite BBQ restaurant that I highlighted yesterday, The Beachcomber. If you go during the summer month, good luck finding a parking spot here! That actually goes for any beach on the island. Our little gem has been discovered so it gets pretty crowded. We always try to get there early and pick a nice spot for our huge tent (we burn like it’s our job).
2. Â Neptune Park Fun ZoneÂ
This place is fairly new and has lots of things for families. There is a putt-putt course which is adorable as well as a water park. I have never been inside the waterpark, but you can see if from the outside and it looks like a blast for families. So if you’re looking for a place to cool down from those hot south Georgia days, give this place a try! Here’s a link to their site.
3. Â ShoppingÂ
St. Simons has it’s fair share of stores for your shopping pleasure. If you head down to the pier, you can’t miss the majority of the beach-y shops like Tonya’s, Go Fish, cute dress boutiques, a toy store and more. However, if you’re trying to stay away from the “huge” crowds, check out the shops at Red Fern as well as in the shopping strip near Harris Teeter where there are cute, preppy stores. There is a small, quaint store that we would visit all the time and still love it to this day and it’s called “Pane in the Glass.” It’s a little store that has lot of handmade items and it’s so cute and super eclectic! Definitely take some time to stop in! Lastly, there are tons of outdoor/adventure shops around the island and they’re not hard to find. Check out some more shops here.
4. St. Simons Island Light HouseÂ
Who doesn’t love a cute little light house? Check out the one on the island right next to the pier and try walking to the top. There is even a museum at the bottom that you should check out.
5. Ride Bikes
This is such a bike friendly place to visit. You can ride almost anywhere on the island and there are sidewalks everywhere and most places to ride are shaded. When we go with my family, we ride all the time! Try riding on the beach early in the morning and catch the sunrise…it’s beautiful!
If you’re willing to travel off of the island, take a trip over the Jekyll Island and explore their beaches (they have awesome driftwood beaches) and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center! They also have a pretty awesome water park!

Since Britt and I just got back from a wonderful vacation with his family, I thought I would share a little about one of my favorite places, St. Simon’s Island in south Georgia. It’s an adorable, quaint little island that I have been visiting for over 24 years with my entire family (cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles….you get the picture) and we even got married there! That being said, I would like to share my love of the island in a three part series starting with some yummy eats!

Let’s talk food, y’all. I love to eat however, Britt is the pickiest person I know so I’m going to share some delicious places on the island that we both love.
How about we start with seafood…it is an island after all.
1. Mullet Bay
Mullet Bay is a really big tourist-y restaurant, but it has a great atmosphere, especially since they recently upgraded their patio. It could use a little (actually a lot) of help in the interior, can you say 1990’s beach theme? It’s still fun to visit and their food is really good. I love their shrimp and any of their other seafood dishes, but Britt doesn’t eat seafood, so he get’s their burger and loves it. If you go, definitely try out their Mahi Finger as an appetizer…it’s always a hit at our table.

2. ECHO
If you are looking for something that is not so tourist-y and more trendy, you have to check out the newly renovated restaurant called ECHO located in the King and Prince Resort. We adore the King and Prince and said “I do” under their palms next to the ocean. Since we got married almost three years ago, we had to go back this past year to check out their renovations and it blew us away. It’s incredible! We loved the trendy feel and were so impressed by how much work they had done (we were a little jealous of how good it looked). Britt and I went there for breakfast one morning before his family arrived and I got way too much food and loved it. Britt got his classic staple, biscuit and gravy. However…the service is not up to par. We were pretty disappointed because we love the new look, they just need to work on the service a little. They’re get there! If you are in the mood for a delicious breakfast or brunch, it’s definitely a place to go.

3. Beachcomber BBQ
I am such a sucker for some good, southern BBQ and this place definitely delivers! I am pretty picky when it comes to my shredded pork and this place is the best. The outside (and inside) may not look so appealing, but let me tell you, after a long day on the beach, it is a must visit! Britt doesn’t eat BBQ very often so when he goes, he gets the hot dog and raves about it. We recently tried the smoked turkey and it was a winner, too. There are other BBQ places on the island that are more popular, but this one is the winner in my book.

4. Costa Kitchen and Raw Bar
Hello, yummy! I went to this place for the first time ever last weekend and was in love. We all went for brunch and it was great! I had chicken and waffles and there was not a bite left over (that’s a big deal for me). Pair that with a strong mimosa and you’ve got the best brunch ever (can you tell I’m a brunch person?). It is a little bit off the main part of the island, but worth the 5 minute drive…it’s a small island, y’all. It sits right on the harbor and has a fresh and trendy feel inside. We walked out on the docks after brunch and took some pictures that I’ll post later. I would assume they have a killer dinner as well. Don’t miss this place!

5. Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzaria
Last but not least…pizza! Come on, who doesn’t love an awesome slice of pizza everyone now and then? The Briscoe’s definitely do! We love our pizza and this place is wonderful. If you decide to eat here…get there early because it’s a local favorite and is always packed. Sit back, have a glass of wine and enjoy some of the best pizza around.

Hi World!
My name is Kelly Briscoe and I am thrilled to be starting my own blog! the focus of my blog will be a few different things…crafts, family, adoption, home decor, and more!
But first, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am 25 years old and live in Dallas, GA with my adorable and loving husband, Britt. We have been married for three years in September and we are parents to a silly, crazy fluffy pup named Lila. She is the light of our lives and we cannot wait for her to have a human sibling.
I adore crafting and love sewing (check out my Etsy shop, BriscoeDesigns) and have a passion for creating things for sweet little ones. I have dreamed of having my own kids for years, but Britt and I are seriously considering adoption. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in the next year.
My hubby Britt is 27, almost 28, years old and is hilarious and crazy handsome. He has a passion for being creative digitally and has created a video game called Default Dan (go check it out) with some of his friends. We can’t wait for it to be available for purchase. He has such a wonderful and creative mind…what a fun guy to be married to.
